Oh Yes, It’s Most Definitely You
Well, the same is true when it comes to your dog training efforts.
It seems like, in today’s society, that everyone always wants to be held blameless for everything. There seems to be a ‘rational’ excuse for everything inappropriate, wrong, or downright bad that someone wants to do.
When it comes to training the family dog this lack of accountability is quite pervasive.
“I don’t have the time to train the dog.” Translation- I’m not willing to prioritize my time well enough to train the dog.
“My dog’s breed is especially difficult to train.” Translation- This is harder than I thought so it must be the dog’s breed.
“My dog is too hyper to train.” Translation- I’m either too lazy to fulfill my dog’s needs or I’m not willing to learn HOW to fulfill my dog’s needs.
“Learning to train a dog is too expensive.” Translation- I’ll spend $100 a month on my daily coffee and $100 every weekend going out but I don’t want any of that money going to getting my dog help.
“I don’t know how to train my dog.” Translation- I’ve tried a few things but gave up when it got tough and I couldn’t immediately figure it out.
I’ve got news, folks. When it comes to your dog’s problems…it’s not your dog, it’s you.
I can’t tell you how many times we’ve brought a dog into our dog training boot camp only to see a completely different side to the dog. The owner is complaining of a hyperactive, aggressive, bad mannered cretin where what shows up is a dog who, with just a small dose of correct discipline, is anything but. All the dog needed was to get away from an owner who was encouraging bad habits and learn some new ones.
Are you feeling bad enough, yet?
Okay, okay. I’m sorry that I’m coming at you so hard. The truth is, though, that training dogs is fairly easy once you know what you are doing. It’s the owners that need to get on board with learning what is necessary for their furry pal.
There are solutions, though. No matter what problem your dog is currently having, guess what? Someone has learned how to fix it. On this website and with my dog training videos I go into great detail on how to fix most dog problems. There are other experts like me out there who can help you. If help exists, what is holding you back from taking advantage?
Time to stop getting in your own way. Starting today you need to stop saying to your dog, “It’s not you, it’s me” and work towards fixing your dog problems.
