How to Train a Dog to Find a Lost Child

  • February 4, 2017

When I used to train my bloodhounds to start doing tracking for S&R, we’d have the person laying trail to carry some toilet paper. Then, as they progressed down the trail they were lsying, they’d tear off single sheets and drop the sheet. That way, they not only gave the dog handler a visual as to which direction they traveled, but it also helped to hold their sent on the trail.. the single sheets would disintegrate easily with the firsthe rain. The trais for our bloodhounds were quickly becoming lengthy so the TP really helped! Probably more helpful to the handler than the dog, as they were amazingly spot on track once they got the initial start on trailing!
