The Miniature Schnauzer, also called the Zwergschnauzer, is a German breed. They belong to the non-sporting group and they were originally used as herding dog. It is suspected that this was created by crossing the Wolf-Spitz, the black Poodle, and a Rough-Coated German Terrier. Today this breed is many a family dog, however, they still make a living as a mouser and a watchdog.
The Miniature Schnauzer stands between 13 and 14 inches tall and weighs between 13 and 15 pounds. They have a short to medium length coat that is wiry and hard. They come in two color variations, solid black or salt and pepper. This is a very loving dog that enjoys a lot of attention. They tend to be a vocal breed, so they may be best for detached homes with a large yard.
