Hey all!
Last night we pulled off our first live webinar. I think it went great!
Now, here’s the thing. I had been looking for a dog that gets really aggressive and reactive when it sees other dogs.
We found a dog here locally that does that. When he came to our building he didn’t disappoint. He was pulling and lunging at the dogs he saw.
As Murphy’s Law came into effect, though, by the time the camera started rolling he was still definitely pulling and whining to get to the other dogs but he wasn’t acting like his normal, rude self.
Nevertheless, in this hour webinar we were quickly able to get him to stop pulling, stop being reactive, and stop acting like such a jerk.
We did it based on two primary methods:
1- Our ‘Crazy Man’ Method for leash walking. This is a method whereby we teach the dog to pay attention as we walk instead of pulling. Doing this really helps the dog to zero in and gets rid of a lot of aggression and reactivity.
2- Our ‘Step-Back-Recall’. This is a unique method using an e-collar for teaching a dog to put focus on the owner instead of on the ‘trigger’ of their aggression. It essentially re-conditions the dog to happily look to the owner instead of at the source of their stress.
Using these two methods we were able to see, within the hour, some big progress and some big mental shifts. I’m hoping you can take away some great information as well.
Enjoy-
